running a little warm

Recommended Posts

My Daughters car a 2001 Cadillac Eldorado ESC with the Northstar V8 tends to run a little hot in the summer.

This is some info she sent me. Has new fan fuse, newer radiator, doesn't leak coolant but runs warm/ hot when the weather temp is hot or in stop in go traffic.

I have not had a chance to look at it as she lives about 80 miles away, but I there is a solid starting point? Be nice to have a clue what the problem is.

Appreciate any insight!!!

Start at the front of the car and look for a build up of bugs and road grime in the A/C condenser in front of the radiator. Look at the radiator itself to make sure it is clean and able to flow air through it. Make sure the electric fans are coming on when the temp comes up and when the A/C is being used. Check the radiator cap to make sure it holds the correct pressure. ( Coolant boils easier the less pressure it is under)

Look at the condition of the coolant and if it is excessively dirty have it flushed and put a new thermostat in.

Hopefully it will be one of the above or you may have to get more involved.... at a greater expense. sick

Hot in the summer from what she says is pretty close to the red mark.

I asked about the hoses too, she says they look good, but heck she don't know. She says one fan comes on, but not so sure about the 2nd one. But the radiator and the AC fins are a good tip. I am going to have to drive down there and take a peek, but some other tips to look at is a good thing.
