Twist of fate annual hunt

Well, it's that time of year again when the Twist of Fate group starts to plan out 2012 archery hunt for the phyically challenged hunters we invite each summer to attend this hunt.

Almost everything is supplied to each attende except for thier transportion to and back home from the hunt in North Dakota.

Each year we invite from 12-15 guests and then we hope they can all make it as some of them have many health issues and cannot make it at the last minute.

We have approx a 80% harvest rate each year and last fall, we hit the 100% kill rate for these disadvantaged archers. Most are quads or are in a wheel chair.

I have guided for this hunt for the past 12-13 years, I forget which. A HSO staff member by the name of Scoot, made a blind large enough for myself and my hunter to get in and yet have plenty or room. This was quite the blind donated by Scoot and I can never say thanks enough.

here is a link to the Twist of fate HSOforum so you can see what this is all about.

Thanks again Scoot for the blind.

The Twist of Fate hunt is an awesome event! Those who help with it deserve a big pat on the back and handshake- their efforts are really great. Every year I hope to make it to the banquet, but I always seem to be gone at that time for something. If the hunt is held at it's usual time this year, I'll likely miss it again. I'll make it at some point though...

I'm glad that blind is working out, Tom! The poor thing took a beating this Winter though. I have a buddy who says he can get me some replacement burlap for free, but he isn't getting it in like he figured he would. As soon as he gets it in, I plan on running out there to do some fix it work on the blind. I'm pretty sure I can clean it up and make it better than new with a little effort and TLC.

That would be wonderful Scoot as the spot it is in and the size of it makes it a great blind to get the wheelchairs in and out of.

If you do not find any burlap, I will buy some and get at it when I go up in August to put my camera there and some other goodies for the deer.

Yep, same weekend again this fall.

Sounds good, Tom. We'll get it fixed up! If I can get that material I'll head out there and get to work. I'll also hopefully take you up on the offer to put up a ladder stand then too. Hopefully my buddy will get that burlap soon so I can get cracking!

Put your stand up right away and then the deer will get use to it. Noone else should be in that woods until middle to late October at the soonest.

Carter will be around for the summer so not much for worries about aomeone stealing it.

Harvey Good luck on the hunt this fall I will not be able to help out. I looked at the calender and we have a Wis Dells just after those dates frown I really wish I could help and swing both trips. Give me reminder for the 2013 season however.

You can go to the link I posted above and there is a contact name in there. Give them a call if you may be interested in helping.

From year to year it changes as far as what type help they need.

I know that there is about the same guides every year but that does not mean ytou cannot help another if they are looking for some help.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
