bassman186
What do all you muskie hunters out there think of this? I bought an Ugly Stick Catfish combo at Gander Mountain, The reel was junk so I switched that out with a shimano baitcaster, but I was wondering do you think the rod can hold up to the beating those muskies give it? Any help or ideas would be great Matt
paperlipz
Catfish rods are generally softer, sometimes even made out of glass. I would not recommend this for rod for musky fishing. You need something a little more stout and for sure made of graphite unless you are trolling. When you set a musky, you need backbone to get the hooks to slide through those teeth and penetrate bone. An ugly stick absorbs too much of this shock and could cause you the fish of a lifetime. The reason you see so many posts of lost fish is not just a coincidence. You need proper equipment in order to increase your percentages. God knows they are low enough to start with when chasing muskies.
Swamp Scooter
How many of you are going to Bald Eagle on Tuesday? I asked on that post if anyone was bringing radios and what channel should we use?

slotleft
Paperlipz- the ugly stik catfish rod has quite a bit of backbone. I've got one myself. If it's a 7' Heavy -it might work huh? Aren't ugly stiks made with graphite anyway?
bassman186
Yeah slotleft I thought the same thing but I guess some are made with glass?? [PoorWordUsage]MattP.S. Where have you been the past hour?

slotleft
Bassman: Personaly, I think Ugly Stiks are great. They can withstand just about anything you throw at them. I've got an Ugly Stik I use for Musky fishing and it works well. The only thing I dont like about them is that most of them are two piece. Last time I went Musky fishing, my rod came apart while I was casting a heavier jerk bait.
