Joe Dirt: Yeah, it is. It came out of the sky.

Meteor Bert: Well I'm sure it did but it ain't no meteor. It's a big ol' frozen chunk o' [PoorWordUsage].

Joe Dirt: What?

Meteor Bert: Oh yeah, see them airplanes they dump their toilets 36,000 feet. The stuff freezes and falls to earth. We call 'em Boeing bombs.

[chomps teeth]

Joe Dirt: No, that can't be. That's not what it is.

Meteor Bert: Oh, afraid so. See that peanut? Dead giveaway.

Joe Dirt: Uhhh, no, that's a space peanut.

Meteor Bert: No, afraid not. That just a big ol' frozen chunk of [PoorWordUsage].

looking at the picture I would guess a form of hematite, a form of iron ore. When you say it is magnetic do you mean metal is attracted to it or a magnet sticks to it? It may have another mineral called magnetite in it. The bands of quartz in it indicate it was an earhtly process. Probably deposited by a glacier.

Yup just an ordinary rock. I think meteorites look more like an actual chunk of metal that has kinda melted... These meteorites that have been cut showing the inner crystal structure are pretty neat

Wow, those are some sweet meteorites....what are the odds of actually finding one of those things? Any estimates about how many actually hit the earth each year?

I found numbers that say anywhere from 18,000-78,000 meteorites bigger than 10 grams hit earth each year.. from what I know too.. They are worth a good chunk of change to collectors

Yup they are worth alot. I remeber seeing one for sale at a rock shop in new Mexico for like $30,000. There are a few on Fleebay for an insane price. There used to be a show on Tv with a guy who made a huge metal detector attached to the front of his truck and he would drive through the desert looking for them...
