Went out last night with a buddy and caught my first 'ski. Went about 35in but felt like the loch ness. Wow, did we have fun! Must have seen 20 fish. Work is going to be tough today. Looks like I am into another expensive habit!!

Congrats on your first.

I'm still in the process of trying for my first. Living in Eastern Iowa makes it very hard to catch one....Uhhh, let's face it, living in Eastern Iowa makes it near impossible to catch the toothy critters. They seem to disappear during the summer(Must go way deep)????

But, I hired a guide this year for our annual trip to Vermilion. My guide is a huge TV Star now...Watched him on the Outdoor Channel...Hoping maybe my first will be that bruiser the Rapala guy caught.LOL

Any of the metro lakes turning on now? Been thinking of driving the wife up so we can visit her friend, and sneak out for a bit. Friends live on the southern suburbs. I used to live in Buffalo, and had Sugar close...Maybe to long of a drive for a weekend.

TMBeard,

You might want to consider hitting French Lake in Southern MN, I think I remember hearing somewhere the action has been pretty decent this spring... Also if you are in Eastern Iowa it might be worth looking into some options over near the Chicago area...

RU,

Thanks for the input.

I was considering the following Metro lakes: Waconia, Minnetonka(Although my 17' Crestliner may get run over by those big Fin barges..Especially on the weekend), or Indy. Didnt remember French had skis in it...Thanks.

Our friends live near Mystic Lake casino. Im sitting here, and I just realized...Its been 2 years since we moved back to Iowa and I have already forgotten the names of the suburbs....Wow

Anyway, maybe since they are there it would be worth the trek to Waconia? Or how far is French?

Thanks,

Travis

Correct,
I have been on Lobster a few times but never got them to hit it. I am already contemplating another rod and some more lures. Them 2x4's cost a bunch.

You really should have told me that I shouldn't go out last night again. I got another one that was a couple inches bigger. Its really over now. Have to go out again tonite. I can see alot of money being spent in the next couple weeks!!

So many lakes, so little time.

Maybe a extra long weekend trip, and Ill just "Lake Hop" while I'm up there.

Better call our friends and find out when they can house us for a weekend.

Travis,

I just started to get into muskie fishing so take this for what its worth. I've been told the best way out there is trolling large baits like reef hawgs.

Good luck,
Ben

Ben,

Are you in/near CR? Been thinking of going out there this weekend or at least in the very near future.

It would be nice to meet a fellow ski angler in this area.

Travis,

I'm in Iowa City. Did you have any luck this weekend?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
