Gus
I can only tell you what we did 5 years ago, so far so good. This is holding a 25hp so nothing too huge. The old transom was 1 1/2" thick wood. We sandwiched a piece of 1/8" aluminum between two chunks of 3/4" marine grade. Sealed all the exposed edges. So far so good. We'll see if it makes it 20 years like the original. In theory, I think it will be better with the addition of some aluminum in the sandwich. If you go with aluminum in the sandwich, make sure to NOT use the newer treated wood. It'll corrode the aluminum. Good luck
