hamms-scooter
I have a Lowe Lunker v with the aluminum benches. Plain jane light weight boat. I bought some rod holders and my question is what have some of you guys done to get the full function of the holder with the gunnel kinda in the way..? I was looking at putting it on a 3/4 board but don't think it will work as I would like. I am just wanting to make sure I can angle the rod down enough without hitting the top of the boat. Thanks. SpecialK
I used some 2x4's that I bolted to the side of the boat and then mounted the rod holders the that. I would post a picture of it but the boat is up north.
c0untryf1sh3r
Depending on the holders, and if the mount has two positions to insert the holder itself (i.e. top of gunnel or inside of gunnel), you could use a chunk of 2x4 as a spacer and run bolts through the holder mount, through the wood, then through the metal of the boat to give it some extra clearance so as to not scrape the gunnel. Make sure to butt the 2x4 right up under the gunnel and make sure to use relatively big washers to distribute the load. I'll look to see if I have a pic of my grandpas old boat somwhere to give you an idea of what I'm talking about, thats how he rigged his rod holders and they didnt budge.
