No_Net
Got this one last night and I'm not certain if its a highfin or a quillback? It was about 1 lb and the lake I got it out of the dnr survey shows it has both species in it.
StillwaterAaron
From this pic it will be nearly impossible to tell between the 2 species. Glad to see you know it is a carpsucker!
Mudcatman
I would say based on quill length alone, its a Quillback. A Highfin Carpsuckers quill will normally be long enough to be touching the tail. But its quill could have been shortened somehow throughout its life, you never know. If you happen to get more, check for a nipple like bump in the crease of its mouth. The Highfin will have it, the Quillback will not.

StillwaterAaron
Nice to see people giving a [PoorWordUsage] about "rough fish". You mean by shooting them? You can see the hole behind the dorsal fin.I love catching "roughfish" all fish are sportfish in my mind and there is a large group in the area that has lots of knowlege and care for our native fish that do not have large stocking programs.
