Very early spring Morson fishing

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

Who has a report on whether the last ice is gone?

Thanks to Tollens for reports on pike etc!

But if someone is going up to fish walleyes say April 14-15, or pike, where the heck would you start?

What's the woods like up there, dry? Still muddy?

Time to start thinking open water!!

i was up there yesterday with my boys and my dad. only fished 2 spots and did very well. i was surprised that we was catching them deep, anywhere from 30 to 40 plus feet. Furthest we went was Rabbit pt. out in front of Mylies in the bay in close to 30 ft and it was deeper yet over by Rabbit. saugers, walleye, perch, smallies and few pike. nothing big was caught, 22 inch was the biggest walleye and the pike was 37 inch. just jig and minnows. big or small minnows and color jig didnt seem to matter. even got quite a few on plastics. a few hours well spent on the water. ate some of the evidence for supper.

The last day of ice fishing season was great! Caught a lot of small ones Saturday afternoon not far off Govt. Dock... deep water... nothing big but had the whole family out for the earliest boat "opener'' ever. Saturday started yucky but by afternoon the wind went down and sun came out and it felt good to be back in a boat!

Got all the ice fishing gear put away (even some unfinished duck hunting stuff left from last fall) and summer stuff ready to go. Even got the last of the oak leaves off the yard.

Had a great bonfire at sunset and must have heard and saw a dozen different kinds of waterfowl, owl, eagles, pelicans, beaver, muskrat -- all from the yard. Frogs were noisy.

Even with the rain the Lake is VERY low for spring.

Spring has sprung at LOTW! Gotta go chase turkeys for a while then back up in a few weeks.
