Down to Earth
Great Post Tom, especially for someone like me who is relatively new to the sport. Thanks.Andy
AWH
You (at least I do!) often hear about a guy's wife/girlfriend that outfishes him and the frustrations that he has because of this. After all, she doesn't know what she's doing. How could this be? Because she doesn't know what she's doing, she's probably not working the bait the way it's "supposed" to be worked. So it's different from what the fish normally see. And as Tom says...Chewed!
Fish-n-Freak
Tommy,It's good to have you back at the computer, we miss you in the summer.I couldn't agree more -- I just wish I knew what I was agreeing with! LOL :-DIt kind of goes along with that "beginners luck" idea. New guys/gals will not have the "bad" habit of working thier lures in these perfect retrieves. They will stop to talk and let a lure sit for 5 minutes while picking knots out, then as they start reeling POW!!! out of no where this fish will come and crush the lure that was just sitting there a second ago.Making the lure look wounded is the key! Spinnerbaits can be twitched and jerkbaits can be burned. Don't fall into a rut, keep it different and get noticed.
TomWehler
In the Pretty Lure Post I mentioned I like to throw Beat to dump Lures?Canitbeluck, Duck J, Guideman, Freak, MT, Big Roy, all chimmed in and had fun with it. One reason this is my Favorite place to talk Musky & Pike and just be silly me.How about the dinged up lures people on other boards complaine about or toss off at Swap meets?LOLI get more HOT lures this way and from Clients who do not take the time to learn each lure or just figuer they got ripped. They don't run perfact, they don't use them?I say, lets think about what you want it to do, work on your Technique some and then if you still feel you got ripped, give them to me!Great point Big Roy mentioned about how Big Bob talked about lures acting wounded?RIGHT ON!!!Never seen a wounded sucker, white fish, perch, Pike, shiner, sunfish, crappie and so on do a perfact Zig Zag Glide into Death at exacly 3 foot mark?Learning to control your lures is one edge that is simple to do and really pays off.I hear people mention a lure only goes to the left or right.Even after trying to correct this many times, some lures will only do certin things.SO why not use it to work a long a rock wall, weedline, timber line or shore line.Violent Jerk slams in into the wall, dips it into weeds, bounces it off the shorerocks or logs...BINGO, Cheewed. Many examples I bet you all can come up with here.Don't toss them, find a time to use them.Nothing ever Dies perfect outside of the movies.LOLAsk anyone who has gone out with me and they will tell ya I'm a bit different in the way I do and look at things, but also on how I work lures...Very different... People ask me how do you work this or that lure?I just say I do it many different ways every time out? Depending on the weather and what the fish are telling me they want.Simply say that I try to make the lures look like they just had a BIG Safe dropped on them from out of the sky?LOLMake the lure move like it spent a few days of testing with Whiley J Coyotee!LOLI work them to death, pause, let sink, Quiver, voilently rip, pause, shake, drift, sweep, Yank, tear....Make them do things the lure maker never ment or dreamed for them to do.Smash them, Rip them, Drag them, CRANK them at 100 MPH, Jerk them and let them SIT...BINGO, Cheewed!!!My point?Lure that don't run just like you see on TV or as mentioned on the box don't mean they suck. Look more Wounded than anything.Tinker with them, make them do something you think the FISH might like, not what you like?Be different, have fun and keep film in the camara, you will need it. Have fun with this one, I know most of you get what I mean.If you don't, you should, as you will see a BIG difference in number and SIZE of fish to the boat. Keep on Rock'en! DUCKJ
Tom, I love swap meets. I try to hit them whenever I get to any of the Expos. Its a great wat to pick up baits cheep. You can walk into a swap with $20 bucks and walk out with 5 to 10 lures. My buddie was giveing a lure a beer in Chicago. Buy him a beer and choose a bait. Its a great way for a person who is just starting out to fill up his box at a low cost. One mans junk is another is another mans treasure.Happy HuntingDuck
guideman
Hey Duck, Great idea...There is a swap meet at the Minnesota Muskie Expo on either friday, Saturday at the Mermaid. There should be more on the boards about it as it gets closer. The Minnesota Muskie Expo, is the 11th to the 14th of March. I don't know about the Extreme Expo, I would think they're having one as well. The Extreme is this coming weekend, at the Medina entertainment center. ------------------Terry "Ace" Sjobergaceguideservice.comMuskies and More.[email protected]Pro Staff Member.Catch-n Tackle.CKat Custom Muskie rods.Bearpaws Handpoured BaitsOhio Pro Lure.Muskie Nut Tackle.Big Chimney Muskie Baits. Guest
Hi allPlease post any other swap meets, that is if there are any others. I want to get into some musky/pike fishing, however,I don't want to blow out my checkbook buying $20-$30 lures. Geezus, I'm thinking a chopped up broomstick painted up nice with the hooks would catch fish just as good. Hmmm...is anyone making their own lures? :-)Thanks - FB
