Baiting once a week, Wat do or dont ya like about it.

Recommended Posts

Well I took a new job recently an its only gonna allow me to bait once a week on saturdays. Never done this, I really like the idea of less human intrusion an scent an that can play in my favor. The barrel on my private land is Bear Godsend now for sure. Just miss getting daily pics. What you guys like or dislike about having to do it that way. I could see state land would be tough to deal with, not knowing whats going on at your site on land that allow public to enter anytime they want an stumble across your goodies. Oh boy Oh boy, its coming.....

Thats how I usually do it(on saturdays). I just make sure to have a good amount of bait, and deepending on how hard the bears are hitting it, the bait lasts till about wed through sat. Even when its gone by wed. the bears still check it on a regular basis( shown by trail cams). On the state land deal, its not bad until grouse season starts then you get some interesting pics.

Thats the way we did it for years and years growing up cause of school and work. Seemed to always get bear...more often then not. You probably know how bears function more then most. If food was there once, you can bet they'll be back to check it again. One thing "I think" works in this situation is that the bear knows he has to get to it before something else does as it won't be filled for some time...the bear can pattern you. This probably works in less pressured areas. If someone else was baiting within a mile and had food available more often-you'll have some competition-though he'll likely drive his into a night bear sooner with more human involvement.

For those of you only baiting once a week, how much bait are you putting out at a time?

that all depended on how much food we had...and how much help we had. On average, two five gallon buckets full of misc foods, one gallon of molasses or grease, couple loafs of bread, and one stink bag.
