Fish scent

tracker x-2

I always use Powerbait scent while catfishing especially and I'm convinced it works. I don't like fishing without it. I'm not convinced it entices them to bite and I guess I don't really care if it does. What I believe it does do is to create a stronger scent trail for them to follow to the bait than just the scent of the bait itself. To me, it's only logical to use scent while fishing a stationary bait as I normally do while fishing for cats, especially with the number of tastebuds on a catfish and knowing how they find food. I think a good scent trail is vitally important to pulling cats out of deep cover and scent improves the odds of being able to do it.

For other species of fish, I can't say I've ever really noticed alot of difference with or without scent although it may be beneficial at times.

I heard a story about a popular MN walleye angler fishing with a TV fishing show crew. They were supposed to be promoting scent eliminator for fishermen's hands. He had a few choice words, poured some gas on his hands, baited his jig with a minnow, dropped the line and smack - walleye on the line. I think it's all about confidence.

My opinion? On the days that fish are biting it does not matter, gas on hands, no big deal, sun lotion? It's an attractor! However on those days where it is a struggle to get a bite, much less a fish, all precautions should be taken.

I just try and keep my hands clean at all times but really do not believe in the scents.
