O/D On or Off?

Recommended Posts

Great topic.

I've got a 98 Olds Bravada. OD or 3rd gear. I pull in 3rd gear under 60mph and pop it into OD when going faster. When in OD i never set the cruise and i allow the vehicle to lose speed when going up hill rather than allowing the sudden shift into a lower gear.

If i don't switch out of 3rd when going faster than 60 my RPM's go through the roof, and the bottom of the gas tank seems to fall off. frown

Am I doing this wrong?

That's a 4.3 in the bravado right? Depending on the size of the boat you could be okay in od at lower speeds. I have a 4.2 in my trailblazer and cannot pull my boat in od at all but its got a 3.42 rear end. Basically I cannot get out of its own way at all gutless. But if u have a 3.73 rear end it should tow much better and ur right u might as well have a 6.0 liter for mileage when towing out of od in any vehicle mileage is awful.
