seeing that you use a point and shoot camera, there's a chance that you cant change your ISO, FStop, and Aperture settings.

The best bet is to try taking pictures with the different "programs" that the factory has predetermined what you need already. You can try portrait, landscape, or sport to give your photos a more crisp feel. Also, check to see if your camera has an auto white balance. If it does, you should be able to change the settings of the white balance to remove some of the bleach.

the last couple P&S cameras i have owned still allow me to adjust all my settings if i want to go manual.. is it comparable to a SLR.. no.. the p&s still compensates for user error usually

That's a good point... Playing around with the point and shoot I recently got (a very high end one) the manual settings are very comparable to what I would use if I was to use the pre programmed for landscape and portrait.
