I do shore fishing only and need....

Sir_Sumo

Question

I don't have a boat and do strictly shore fishing and will be in the market for a new rod this spring. I have always used Ugly stiks for their strength and durability and have been satisfied. Within the past couple years, I have been changing my fish species from pan to Walleyes and would like a new rod. I dead stick a lot but I also cast out and jig back from shore as well. This rod I want to buy is for cast/jig back. I am looking for sensitivity mainly but has to fall in my budget of $150 or less. Reel will be Shimano, either Sahara 1000 or Sedona 1500. I have a Shimano Compre 6'6" Medium Fast 2 pc already but would like something more sensitive. Also aside from farther casting, is there any reason why length of the rod matters much?

With a longer rod you can pick up more line at once. This is nice for pulling long snells (which you probably won't be doing) and fishing bobbers along with longer casting. Fenwick makes excellent rods which are very sensitive.

Fenwick, gloomis, st croix all make very nice rods. Personally don't like fenwick because one broke on me but it was the most sensitive rod that I've used. Loomis' are very nice but expensive, st croix are almost as nice with an interesting warranty.

Last year I used a Jason Mitchell 8' telescopic slip bobber rod and boy can I launch lures with that. Gets to the point where I have to reel in so I can see the bobber.
