Ice conditions really change in 90 miles.

Here are two videos I took of open water in North Central Iowa and Trucks driving on the ice at Emerson Bay, West Okoboji, Iowa.

It is over a foot thick and one the guys emailed me last night and said they are still driving on it.

Probably not for long with this weeks temps.

Esox, didn't your area get hit with some rain in the last 5-6 days? One of the guys I ice fish with and fish tournys against has a son in the Okoboji area, who thinks by late March the big lakes will be open.

Yea got rain early last week, surprised ice held us as well as it did...Only the top 2-3" was refreeze rest was good ice...Late March may be in the ballpark once the shorelines start to open up, these lakes can open up in a few hours if conditions are right....

Drove by lake Sara yesterday south western part of the state by Tracy and it was mostly wide open and I heard other reports of ice that was 8" in one spot and 1"right next to it so defiantly not the safest in that neck of the woods
