Well i really wanted to get my fiance her first bird with a bow this spring down in Kansas but because of work conflict she cant go now, i was thinking of trying to pick up some left over tags across the boarder. Just looking for any tips on which zones to look into, should i be looking into forest lands, parks, or wildlife areas etc? Thanks

Zone 4 is certainly the closest and there will be piles of left over tags available. There is lots of public land on the northern end of the zone, problem is the turkey population up there is not great. Your best bets would be near the St. Croix River in Polk and Burnett counties.

The areas south of 94 holds lots of birds, but public land is rare. That being said, permission is relatively easy to come by. My advice is, take a road trip this weekend and knock on some doors. Most any promissing looking piece of property will probably hold turkeys.

Look to the areas around the many creek/stream/river systems in the area. The steep draws surrounding these all hold good numbers of birds.

Good luck!
