carb settings

I cleaned the carbs on my 1992 polaris 440 today and the settings seemed different or else I lost count of turns. Does anyone know how many turns out the larger screw with the spring is set at?

what is it doing? that is to adjust the idle.

Seems to be running OK...I just thought there must be some standard setting. I have both screws out 4 1/2 turns

I was thingking about 4 turns. When I do carbs I don't touch that screw. it is not a jet.

The large screw with the spring (if it is the one I think you mean) is normally the idle speed adjustment screw. There is no set amount of turns other than to get your idle speed at the proper RPMs. Out will lower idle, and in will raise it.

In order properly to sync the carbs, they both need to be set the same, so the slides are open the same amount at closed throttle, then the cables need to be adjusted so the slides move up at exactly the same time when you squeeze the throttle.
