otterman, with all due respect unless u are doing a major addition (fuse panels, new board, etc) elecrical is pretty simple.

For the rest of the week I've got generator feeders to pull, a 600 amp automatic transfer switch to integrate into the system and all of the comunication wiring between the two. Tell me again how easy this is to do.......

Just so I'm clear on this... if I want to have electrical work done in my basement, lets say replacing my panel, the electrician pulls his permit and does his work?? This would be separate from my building permit??

Yes, the electical permit is different than the building permit, and inspected by a different person.

I just put that in there because, no, it's not easy. Aspects of the job are easy but taken as a whole, it's not easy.

I don't like it when people say my job is easy when installing receptacles and switches in 120 volt systems are such a miniscule part of the job.

I always felt the same way when homeowners or contractors would tell me how easy it was to design their own house, house addition, etc. Every now and then I shudder when I see an addition that stands out like a sore thumb. I always thought architects should get their act together and get the law changed to make it a requirement to hire a licensed architect for residential work, not just commercial.

That was kind of the point I was trying to make in my last tongue-in-cheek post. Could I wire a commercial building? NOT on your life! Could I wire a basement remodeling? Yes, I have done it before, with City electrical inspections, with no issues.

My last design project before I retired was a 110,000 square foot vehicle maintenance facility, now under construction. Could any non-architect here design that? Highly doubtful. But they probably could design a basement remodel. It's all about scale and complexity.
