Changing Lubricant/Grease on ice reels (Okuma Ignite)

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone else has had any issues with the Okuma Ignite getting a little "stiff" when fishing outside in very cold temps. I have heard that changing the reel's lubricant and grease can help this problem. Have any of you done this in the past? If so, how do you go above removing the grease and lubricant before replacing it. Also, what products are you using? I have heard good things about Quantum Hot Sauce lube and grease. Are you replacing both the lube and grease, or just one? Thanks for any advice.

Open your reels up so you have access to the internals... no need to pick at the grease.. simply blast the old lubricant out with some WD40 or some Simple Green degreaser... rinse with water if you wish but then remember to then use a light spray of WD40 again.. now apply your new grease.. use Frabill Sub Zero grease or Hot Sauce or almost any kind of White Lithium based grease will work.

Then put reel together and go fishing!
