Ideas on how to organize my Otter XT900 cabin

lanningjw

Question

We have been hitting milacs this winter and I have moved up from a HUB tent shelter to a Otter XT900 insulated cabin shelter. The reason for doing this was its just alot quicker.... The guy rope deal was just to much time for me.... Much better to move to another mud flat with the otter flip and the tub for storage.

My question is how to organize the following items in the tub?

Small buddy heater with a 10 pound LP tank (Has anyone ever just left the heater inside the tub and not had issues with melting the plastic tub?

FL 18

rod case

small case for lures.

Milacs mix bait in a in a smaller playmate cooler

Rattle reel

Drinks and food...

Maybe some milk crates with PVC pipe for rod holds( Like my fishing partner uses when we are on the move looking for fish.

Bucket for fish...

Any picutes and ideas of how you organize would be great!

Jim

There are some older threads on how to set up a tub to hold all of ones gear.

One could set all you items in your tub, make a drawing of how you want to set it up and then frame out the tub and cover it with plywood. Many will place hinges on the bin areas that will hold each item and then alot carpet the top.

A great place to see different options for setting up the tub would be to go to the Thorne Bros portable mod day. many have thier portables there all set up to see different ways to do it.

I would be very leary of running ones heater inside the tub. get pretty hot for that molded plastic I am afraid.

Maybe do a search on mods in the ice fishing form.

Great info and thank you so. I have so much to learn about a "porty" or a portable. I just think the porte style is the way to go compared to the hub style that I also have.

It really was kinda cold up a Milacs when the sun went down so we all got into our portables to get out of the wind. Man was it warm inside the otter insulated cabin. I have a small buddy heater and was down to a t-shirt.

You can really learn alot on this forum about equipment. For example I picked up a Igloo 1 gal cooler for minows and it great! smile

Get yourself a Otter Sportsmans Caddy for your Cabin and you wont have to worry about where to put a lot of your gear. Check them out at www.otter.com I wont fish out of my Otter without mine. It has tons of room for tackle, batteries, towels, TP, bags, headlamps, food etc. Just dont put cans of pop or beer in it if going a long ways with wheeler or sled. I found this out the hard way. shocked

Update.... Was able to find a used Otter Sportsman Caddy and purchased for $60. Looks like its gonna help me out so all my little stuff is not gonna be on the floor of the tub. seems like a real quality storage device. Thanks Jim
