Top Pike Lures

When I fish big pike in Canada, my number one producer of the big boys is "The Pig".I like the silver and black colored floating model. It is a great jerkbait. Of course you can always catch pike on spoons. If you are fishing thick weeds a Johnson Silver Minnow can be good. I like to add a twister tail as an attractant to the hook. For topwater pike I have had luck with the Poes Jackpot, and Awaker. I caught two 38inchers one day on a Bionic Bucktail. With pike you just have to get lucky with the weather, and hope the big slimes are active. good luck.

Hey Guys:

I will be going up to Canada in a couple of weeks, and have never really seriously fished for Pike. ( only through the ice with tip-ups) So I need some lure help!!!!!!!! What would be your top 3 or 4 choices of lures I must have in my tackle box?????? Please include sizes, colors, and any other info you would like to give. All posts would be GREATLY appreciated. We will be fishing central Saskatchewan ( Lac la ronge area) from June 13th -20th.
Thanks alot!
John

Thanks bucktail!
I can't wait. a couple more questions; I'm told that size does matter( In many situations, eh!) How big would you go with spoons, Huskey Jerks , Etc.. Also what would you recommend for line? Should I stick with 20lb Mono, (my plan) or go to somethig else. Steel or Titianium leaders, is there a big difference? Thanks for all your suggestions, This site is so awesome!!!!

If you are in the cities, I would highly reccomend a trip to Thorne Bros.. If you go, pick up a FUNKY CHICKEN. They are easy to reel, rip through weeds and produce. They WILL have every thing you need along with what I believe- the most expert advise. -NS-

I make my own leaders with either "tiger wire" in the jewelry-making section of JoAnns Fabrics, or with a groovy no-crimp product from Fenwick that you uni-knot. Steel is fine.

For lures I would make sure to include a couple of "Inhaler Rattle tail" Bucktail's.
Black hair/orange blade and Brown hair/Brass blade are a must. These have held up the best for me out of all Bucktails I have used. Silver minnow and a few Yellow or white twister tails. I would also take with some 3/4oz spinner baits, Black/orange blade, white/silver and a chartreuse. For leaders I only use the new Titanium ones, one can last an entire trip and they won't kink like wire. For line, no mono, suggest either Power Pro in about a 40# weight. Other things to take would be a couple jaw spreaders and an 11" needle nose pliers.

To be honest, the one series of lure I would have in my tackle box, would be the Blue Fox Vibrax & Super Vibrax, ranging in all sizes.

I have caught more fish on a #3 Gold Vibrax than any other lure, #0 & 1 good for panfish, #2-4 are good for bass, large crappies, small pike (but I did hit a couple pike in the 11 to 13 pound range on that gold #3 two weeks ago). And then you got the big boys for the big fishes.

Good luck up north

Try using your bass spinner baits. I've been fish LOTW for the past 3 years and my bro for 7 years. The most prolific lure we have used is a 1/2 to 3/4 oz spinnerbait. #5 and #7 willow blades painted white and chartreuse with a with and chart skirt. I retired one spinnerbait that i literally caught 100 pike on. It's beat to dump and it earned it's rest. Big fish on black suicks jerk baits. Then it kind of trails off to what ever. There's always the "HOT" lure. Last year it was a white bucktail for some reason. But the spinnerbait seems to be the most consistent over the past few years. You can spend the lottery winning on pike and muskie lures. It does take long to run up a credit card with stuff. Post questions on the lake you are going to. See whos been there and whats up. Maybe call the resort and ask. Good luck StM

Great replys, Thanks!! we are leaving in a day, so I'll let ya know how we do. I definitly have a plan of attack now! and saintmark your're right, those big baits sure aren't cheap. Oh well there are lots of other worse ways to spend my money. I'm sure it'll be well worth the investment to catch some Pike-fever. Later,
John

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
