Second monitor resolution?

I'm looking at getting a second monitor for my laptop. How can I tell if the new monitor resolution is going to work with my current graphics card? The monitor I'm looking at is a 20" HP LED with 1600x900 resolution. There are no options for that resolution in my control panel, but I assume that is because the monitor is not hooked up yet. But I really don't want to order it and find out it isn't compatible. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The specs for the card HERE say it supports up to 2048x1536 but everything else on the sheet is jibberish to me.

Thank You!

You pretty much select any resolution you want up to the max of the monitor. You can select less resolution if you want. I think what you are seeing is the recommended for the monitor. If the card supports up to 2048x1536 you should be able to find something that works with that monitor. I have yet to see where you couldn't find a suitable setting.
