I live in Buffalo and still have a portion of my roof that does not get sun that is still holding snow. I'd get a pic to prove if it wasn't dark right now. I don't understand how the ice can apparently disappear so fast, yet there is still snow above my 1923 house that is 72 degrees. I haven't had any problems with my permy on any of the local Buffalo area lakes. I wonder if the bad spots are not just the spots that are always sketchy regardless of temp, snow, ect. Best place to find the facts on what ice can hold, that I know of, is on the Alaska Fish and Game HSOforum http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/static-sf/Region3/PDFs/icefishing.pdf MN DNR does not give actual weights that ice can hold, just small vehicle, large vehicle, ect. Check out that link, 8 inches can handle 2 tons, 25 inches can handle 45 tons! Sometimes the sounds ice makes, and some melted snow on top of the ice can make people really emotional.
