Weekend sleeper lake

Recommended Posts

Last year we did our first LOTW trip... Did a three day weekend in a sleeper and had a great time. Fishing was ok, but we still had a blast.

It's a little last minute, but looking like we will be heading out for a weekend on the ice in mid Feb. Lakeof the Woods was cool, but I'd like to find a lake that has a night bite as well. Also wouldn't mind trying one of the other lakes I hear so much about. Is Red the next logical choice? Pretty flexible on species, but hard to beat the elusive MN 'eye.

Upper Red would be one of my next choices. We've had good luck after dark. We used a guy by the name of "cookie" when we were up there a few times and we did pretty good each time. I don't have contact info on him but I'm sure somebody on here does.On our first trip up there we couldn't stop the walleyes and a few crappies from biting between 9pm and midnight, not a bad problem to have though.

Like the other guys said, Red is great option.

If you are looking for something a little closer to home there is always Mille Lacs too. The bite isn't as consistent, but I'll wake up at 3am. for a 27" walleye any day of the week wink

We've been catching fish after dark on Mille Lacs this year. Didn't get one last year, but we get about one a night--on average--so far this year. That might change as/if the bite slows down like it usually does it February, but the options alwayas there on MIlle Lacs.
