bait casting Vs spinning rods

how come bait casting rods are much more stiffer than spinning rods. i just got a Abu Garcia vendetta and it seems kinda stiff its a 7 feet medium, is it suppose to be like that or should i get the Abu garcia Veritas. Or all bass fishing rods like that?

I have a spinning rod that is made for bass fishing and it is quite a bit stiffer than my walleye rods. It works great for bass fishing so I wouldn't worry about it.

The varitas would be the same or even stiffer. probably a good thing for bigger bass. don't worry too much. if its not exactly what you want you can return or sell it and buy what you intended to. but bass rods are slightly different than a walleye rod. Its how they design them.

It depends on the spinning rod you are comparing to but generally yes, the blank is stiffer. The stiff blank/soft tip are by design to help set the hook as most baitcasting rods are used for casting applications. If you are comparing it to a fiberglass spinning rod, it will be very different. If you compare it to a graphite spinning rod, the difference will be a lot less. It comes down to intended applications. Generally the stiffer blank will allow you better casts and better hooksets; with the exception of crankbait or live bait scenarios.

Ratings are not standard across the industry, one companies medium could be a rating higher or lower for another company.

Also, like Nick hit on you have to compare apples to apples. Fiberglass, composite, or graphite blank will all react/feel different.

The higher modulas rods will tend to be more stiff. So even when comparing with different line up from the same manufacture, it's something to consider.

As others have said, the higher the modulus. The stiffer its going to be for the most part.. As for why baitcast rods are stiffer.. they are designed for higher pound test line and lures.
