Is it ok to use super glue when tying bucktails?

Recommended Posts

I have never tied bucktails before so this might be a dumb question but any input would be appreciated.

I was going to coat the finished wrap with clear nail polish but I was worried about the smell of the super glue turning off the fish. I use the super glue for the feathers and underneath wrappings so everything stays together. Also the main wrap, then coat it with clear nail polish. Like I said this might be dumb questions but any input would be great.

Hiya,

I would say get some waterproof expoxy. It will be a touch thicker but should hold up well. The other thought would be to get some thread epoxy used for coating the threads on new fishing rods. That is a little more flexible, dries smooth too. It will soak into the threads as well, which will seal everything..

super glue works on all muskie lures attaching plastic tails, broken thread.

however

take it from experience NEVER get close to the lure and blow on the fresh glue to make it dry faster or you may end up having to shave off your mustache

super glue will work but it'll eventually breakdown being wet and doesn't protect the wrap against teeth very well. i'd recommend head cement, you can dab it on as you go and dip your wrap when you're done and it'll protect alot better.

plus then you won't end up with your fingers stuck together.

+1 on what 50" said. Superglue works for a long time for the vast majority of applications, more so if it's rubber tuffened (like the Phantom glue). If you're going to use it get the Phantom stuff as it's made in Eau Clair and it's more fresh then the stuff you're going to find at Home Depot.

PSA: Heat kills superglue. When you're not using it keep it in the freezer. This will increase the lifespan from 1 year to many.
