Built a 6'6"x10' this fall. Gonna put it out saturday.....finally! I ripped 2x6's in half and that worked well for studs. I put the studs 24" o.c to keep some weight down. I framed the floor with 2x4's and the roof with 2x3's. Good luck with you project.

Yea i thought about that 2. But i want it sturdy so i can actually drive a half way decent speed. but should i be worried about weight i figured the completed house to be around 500 pounds maybe more will the 4 wheeler move it.

Thanks for the help

You could easily get by with using 2x2's and going 24 inches on center and running a 2x4 on the corners for framing. Are you going to go gable style roof or flat if you go flat that's where I would go 16 inches on center with a slight pitch then use rubber roofing to cover it.

For sheeting I would go with steel pole barn style steel or 1/4 inch exterior grade plywood.

For the floor I would use 2x3 or 2x4 and 5/8's treated plywood

You could get by very well with 4x4 skids also.

Another thing I like to do is trace out the 6x8 on the garage floor then set up up the holes a door to get an idea of the floor pattern

Good Luck and take pics of the build and post them

Great idea Gordie! With the plan view on the floor you could give it a test run before you build the frame and easily make those adjustments that actually make it work. Heck, you could even practice fish in the summer!

Another thing to keep in mind is whatever you decide to use for sheeting/siding will add A LOT of strength to your walls as long as it's not regular siding (ie double 4" vinyl siding). As long as you use a "sheet" style material. If you are still concerned about it you can always run diagonal strapping (banding that they package lumber with) from one high corner to a low corner on your walls.

Well guys i think i'm going to go 2x3 for stud walls on 2 foot or should i go on 16inches. Next for the frame i'm going to go 4 2x6 skis and frame it will 2x2 cross supports on 16 or 2 feet not sure yet and going to hopefully put 2 bunks about 3 feet out from the back but make them fold up to the wall when fishing out of the 2x3foot spear hole i want to put in 3 holes and i will put a hole on top the spear hole to fish with that during the night so i have 4 holes.

Next question i got 3x6 feet sheets of tin lying around when i do my 8 foot wall should i just cut the next sheet to 2 ft. and screw it on then or should i overlap to the middle of the stud wall any help appreciated. Thanks again

cut the sheets on the corner ends because you will have to put some type of corner flashing on to seal up the corners on the outside anyways.

I would also go 2x3 24 inches on center for the floor

lay out a floor plan to see just how much room you will have with bunks and a heater and a spear hole fishouse shrink awfully quick once you start add ing stuff inside . it will better help you decide how to frame it up also.

as for hauling it as long as you can starp it down really good you should be able to haul it the speed limit as with anything saftey should be thought of first and the taller you go on a trailer the more wind you will catch making it harder to tow in a cross wind.

My 1977 motor home is 2x2 framed constuction and it goes down the road at 70 miles an hour just fine I mean it not explodeing or anything like that

And yes I have had a few and built a few house never worried about the hauling of them.

Bunks can be a good thing but like I said you will burn up room fast in a fish house you its never big enough sometimes. I woulod make them folding bunks if I were to do it

Good luck
