HDS 5 & 7

ib_jigged

Question

I bought a HDS 5 last year and used it all summer, I tried to scroll with the button on the chart screen in the diagonal directions and I can only go straight up and down and sideways.

My wife bought me a HDS 7 to mount in the bow location and I noticed on this I am able to scroll in the diagonal directions.

Is there something wrong with my HDS 5? Or is this normal?

Thanks,

My 7 has always gone diagonal (bought in late '09). What a weird issue. They have the same processor, same keys. I know the screen lighting is different (and size obviously). But otherwise I would think they would operate identical.

Do you have the latest software version on your 5? That might have been a minor fix put into place later on.

I just tried it on my HDS5 and I can get it to go diagonal if I push and hold it in the diagonal direction. It does seem to want to go up and down or across unless I hold down the arrow button.

I am running the 4.0 version.

Guess I never really thought it was an issue at all.

I think you can buy lighter plugs at auto parts store or at fleet farm. The plug, some wire, and a couple crimp connector to hook it to the power cable you got with the unit would work, unless you got motivated and wired it to your boat already.
