fishuhalik
i'm gonna be restocking my duck hunting supplies this year and one thing i definitely want is a dozen high quality mallard floaters. it seems like mallards like smaller, well placed spreads and i want some to place next to my cheaper, higher quantity divers that i'll be picking up in a couple more paychecks. from what i've heard ghg makes about as good a deke as you can buy, but i can't afford to spend that much for new ones so i'll be looking on c-list for some used ones. what do you think is a good $ for used ghg floaters? also, if any of you have a bunch of stuff sitting & collecting dust in the back of your garage let me know how much you want & i'll let you know when i can swing it. $'s tight right now but i'm hoping to spread it out over the off season so i'll be set by fall. i need pretty much everything so whatever you have i probably need! carpshooterdeluxe
How much are you looking to spend?
Feathers Rainin
Dont get the hot buys. The paint is junk. Stick with pro grades. The high quality decoys go for only about 25% less than brand new but you might be able to find a better deal this time of year. Keep me updated on that sturgeon trip too. Sportland_Bait
If you go with GHG go with Pro Grades. They are very nice. Another one to take a look at is Dakota Decoys. Their mallards are the best I've seen. I plan on adding some to my set this year as well. Send me an email if are interested in some Dakotas. I might be able to get you a deal. I just signed on as a dealer for them.Jason Erlandson
TylerS
Man, if you really (and I mean really) are more interested in quality over quantity, I'd shoot a PM to Mutha Goose. That guy makes the most life-like decoys either ducks or hunters have ever seen.
Feathers Rainin
Fishahaulic my buddy has some ghg he is going to be getting rid of. Roosterslayer05
If money is tight fishuhalik I wouldent buy high quality dekes. Save your money and get some cheap ones, or if you really want the high quality dont get ghg. Too many guys run them and the birds see them allot. The only mallard floaters I use are carrylights that my dad gave me from the 70's and I shoot plenty of ducks over them. I cant count the times iv hunted near guys that run high quality dekes and I pull the birds over them. I hunt 30-40 days a season and every year I beleive more and more that the "high" quality dekes dont make a difference. Iv even thrown out all black decoys that I have, ones your supposed to paint yourself, but I havent painted them and they work. Location, being able to hide, decoy placement, movement, and good calling is far more important.
fishuhalik
roosterslayer, i agree with you partly. early season when the birds arent in full plumage, the bright, full-color dekes dont look natural. but later, a bunch of cheap, dull colored dekes dont get the looks that good dekes do. for divers i dont think it makes a ton of difference. they like #s over quality imho. creepworm
It also depends on the size of water you are hunting. Myself, I would take quality over quantity any time. Get yourself some slot decoy bags and they will last a long time, no matter what brand.
Roosterslayer05
I would take 3 dozen coot decoys with half a dozen old dull carrylight mallards over a dozen fully flocked high end duck decoys anyday. But thats just me.
