Guest
I use single wire leaders for my jerkbaits and glidebaits. And braided multistrand for bucktails and spinnerbaits. The problem is with the spinnerbaits. About 1/4 of the casts, the spinner wraps around the leader.Next time out I will use single strand wire for my spinner. Any thoughts why this would be a good idea or not?Rob
Walleye #1
Robert-- How is it going? I was just up to Vermilion for my honeymoon and I went out with Ace, we saw some nice fish. I typically don't use a leader when fishing spinnerbaits, because when you are fishing in the weeds, it seems to not get hung up as much as it does when a leader is added to it. I would say to use a very stiff leader, titanium one. I usually don't have to many problems with it wrapping around the spinnerbait or bucktail. Hope this helps. Keep those lines tightJasonBy the way we did pretty good on Basswood, thanks for the info. I will be in touch.
Guest
The key to keeping the lure ahead of your leader is your thumb. Practice casting so the spinnerbait hits the water ahead of the leader -- gentle thumbing just before it hits the water will keep the spinnerbait extended. Give it a shot. guideman
Hi Rob,As Clayton said it's all in the cast. If you throw spinnerbaits underhand youwill get far less hangups.I use Titianium leaders on spinnerbaitsand I don't have to many problems with them hanging. ------------------Terry SjobergAce guide service.Beautiful Lake Vermilion.aceguideservice.com

Guest
One other tip I forgot to mention -- Just before your spinnerbait is about to hit the water, lift up on the rod tip. This tightens the line (flattens the arc) and will straighten the spinnerbait ahead of the leader.I assume in all of this that you are using spinnerbaits with twisted eyes, rather than the open eyes. delmuts
if you run into where you want to use a leader on spinnerbait that doesn't have a twisted end; i take a short pc of rubber tubbing ( the kind that is used for peep sights on bows or small vacum tubing) slip it over the U- bend . that leaves a closed opening so you can use a leader and it won't slip down the wire. del
