james_walleye
Just looking for some input on tip up rigging. My pike set up yesterday was suffix tip up line to a steel leader. I got a couple small scrappers. My friend was using straight 20 lb mono right to his hook. He got one about 8 lbs and 2 in that 12 lb range. Last weekend he had 2 in that 12 lb range and one pushing 40" with that setup. He said he's never had a problem getting bit off. I've never pike fished without a leader. I'm thinking next weekend about putting a 20 lb mono tipit straight to a plain hook. Any thoughts on all this?Ps they are all swimming yet..... mainbutter
I use 100lb mono for small shark leader, thick mono gives a good bit of protection.I don't use steel leaders for pike anymore, typically I use 25lb fluorocarbon, and it has great bite protection. Just replace it if it starts to get nicks.

BoneCollector9
I use 20 lb. nylon line we were pullin in 17-20 pounders in the backwaters with them and I havent changed my line in 3 years but of course I use a leader with a spinner and a treble hook. LEECH21
I just use 40-50 pound dacron and go straight to the hook or quick-strike. Never had an issue.
