what is the ice like now?

I haven't been out since xmas. Was wondering what the ice is like now? Last time I was out it was a good 6 inches on a lake hour west of the cities. And I know Ice is never safe. Just want to know what it is like now.

I just got back from Carsons Bay on Minnetonka a few minutes ago. I had 9" of good ice where I was fishing, about 200 yards from shore.

I was out yesterday about ten inches black ice seemed good thou open water all the way across the lake in about the middle of the lake seen five pickups drive out two were new chevys. The ice was really making noice then. The ice isnt remotely close to being flat.

Dont let the sky is falling crowd fool you the ice should still be more than safe for foot traffic on most lakes. The top inch or two is grey from thawing and freezing but its solid the rest of the ice is good ice. Been on three lakes in the past week or so and all have had the same 7-10".

Obviously Ill throw in the obligatory, go with someone else if possible, wear a PFD and picks just to be on the safe side 'til you know your on solid ice.

Enjoy it the weather is great and the glare ice is making for easy travel.

We were on Indy's west side yesterday an the ice thickness varied considerably from 6 inches, less than 3" and in one spot the ice began cracking as we drilled, so take extreme caution!

Waconia is a lot of 9-10.5" Some springs and thinner spots to avoid though.

Good ,but always use caution. Ive been out for 8wks. this is great to me. I fish mostly metro lakes during the wk. and branch off on the wkends.

I went to Rush lake Thursday and there was about 8" of ice.
