Binos

Any Suggestions on a good set of binocs that won't break the bank, not afraid to spend a bit for a good set that will last, but don't want to drop a grand on a set either! any of them better after dark for moon light hunting?

I highly suggest you also post this question on the birdwatching forum here on HSO as they use binocs more than anyone (you gotta figure that they are looking through optics 90-95% of the time they are in the field). Also ask what brands they like to use in low light conditions or for looking at/for owls. Of course you will get the guys who tell you "Swarovski/Lecia or die" but you can safely blow them off. There's plenty of good binocs at in the $300-$600 range. Look at Nikons, especially Monarchs. Pretty good lenses for the price (I don't know their low-light capability). Upgrade a little to Steiners maybe.

I found a set of entry level monarch 10x42s in the bargain cave at Cabelas, I got them to come down a bit more in price, and I think I will be very satisfied with them for the price... they are going to bounce around in the pickup a fair bit, so wasn't wanting to spend too much...

Yeah, I picked them up for 179, which they were originally 249, so I think i did pretty good on them, and will be very satisfied with them... if i ever want to spend some mula, i will be looking at a set of image stabilizers!
