spearing on leech?

Anyone been out on leech at all? i am going to be up there this weekend and am curious about ice conditions and any areas to focus on?

We (the inlaws and myself) are staying at the Hiawatha and would like to fish relatively close to that.

Hey Trigger we speared the weekend before xmas and had 9 inches most places and varied down to 6 inches in Kabekona Bay. But if your over in Steamboat I would spear over on the NE or East side of MN Island in or around the trough not sure what the clarity is like but we were in a different bay and it wasn't great but wasn't bad for Leech's standards. Unfortunity the pike weren't moving that well and the ice was really cracking and wind was up, good luck, be safe and don't go through the narrows.

Thanks much MR! Doesn't look like there will be any snow, so i will have to haul the wheeler up.

Obviously watch out for muskies but up in that area it should be nice and quiet not much commossion up that way which is good for spearing. Watch for jumbo perch to come thru and tulibees we saw allot when we up there last time.

Oh there was some snow since you posted your original request but not sure if it all melted by now.

Just a follow up - no pike speared. We set up east of the island but did manage about 20 perch. Great weather for being on the ice.

How was the clarity?

medium - i would say.

I was in about 10 fow and could see bottom fairly good, but it was cloudy.
