Salted Minnow Heads?

Hey all,

I'm heading up to Canada tomorrow morning on our annual early January lake trout trip. With the warm weather, the lake we usually fish just finally froze over yesterday. It won't be thick enough yet for us to get to the outpost cabin we usually stay at, so we'll be staying in a different location. Our main focus will still be lakers, but our travels will have us going near many small walleye lakes. Has anyone ever used salted minnow heads to tip their lures? I'm not going to go through the hassle and expense of getting fresh minnows up there when I don't know how much time I'm actually going to spend fishing for eyes. Are there any other alternatives that work well? Thanks in advance. I'll let you know our results next week.

Im with you amateur, I've used the gulp heads and have yet to catch a thing, but if they work for other folks then more power to them. Live bait works better for me in the winter than fake bait does.

As far as the salted minnow heads, I recall my uncle using some a couple years ago that he picked of from who knows where and the eyes loved them, but give the gulp heads a try. Who knows maybe they'll work this time.
