every one gets a good idea once in a while, Great job on making it real. Always better than store bought and won't ever get lost in a crowd. Add a couple of reflectors and you can find it in the dark, might even keep night riders from buzzing your spot.

I like the Tray Idea as well, It would work great for ya if you didnt have to move all your rods to get your flasher out...

I like the tray idea, but here is another option.

Flip the rod holders and mount them to the lid? If they stay in the holders well, it'd be a good solution and you wouldn't need to mess with finding a place for the tray.

I love it, might make one myself!

I like they rods mounted to the lid too. The tray is one more thing to have to put somewhere or hold in one hand while digging. The lid would fix that and you'd just have to pack it leaving space on top for the reels when you close the lid. Great looking build though!

In my original reply about the tray, I was taking into account the comment by mrfish about his concerns of the rods not being secure enough in the holders to mount them in the lid. I would agree that if they are hanging down from these holders during transport, they could fall out. My other idea was to utilize the lid as a rod locker, but I didn't think that it looks deep enough to work. Start by putting some kind of stop on the lid so that when it opens, it doesn't open up 180 degrees; you would only want the lid to open 90 degrees. Mount the rod holders onto a 1/4" piece of plywood, cut just a hair smaller than the inside dimension of the lid. Have it attached to the lid by hinges that would allow it to swing down when the lid is open. Your rod holders would then be in a vertical position when the lid is open and in the same horizontal orientation they are now when the lid is closed. A simple latch would keep this door shut while you are digging through the lower part of the box.

Unfortunately you would still be adding the weight of the 1/4" plywood but it would hold the rods out of the way and keep them organized.

+1 put a cover over the lid

looks great and you could mod that to fit a sled or wheeler easy
