Vexilar FL-12 help!!!

is it possible to detect size of the fish in a vex 12 or any other model.

Generally the bigger the fish the bigger the return. If you have your gain set properly to just barely pick up your bait, the fish should show as oranges and reds as opposed to green of your bait. It may be hard to determine if its multiple fish if they are close together. And smaller fish in center of cone will appear larger than big fish on the edge of cone.

yes there is! i know on my marcum showdown troller

1 line= lure or small fish

2 lines= medium fish

3 lines= large fish

fish on = 2 to 4 lines going up when you reel in.

Thick red line on a Vex can mean a big fish or several small ones....We see it all the time on my partners FL-20, then we see it on my LX-5 and what his showed as 1 big fish mine shows as several small ones....On a 12 it would be the same or any other Vex since they are all the same other than zoom from the 8 to the 20.....

FYI we came to this conclusion by testing them side by side in water we could sight fish in or with a camera so we knew for a fact what was really down there and what size...

Just catch the fish and compare them. Otherwise with the vex I say no. There is to much going on in the thick lines to tell. Like stated above thick red line on vex could be nice size fish could be 3 fish tight together or fish just directly in center of your cone.

CaptainMusky and hamms-scooter are right on - large fish vs. multiple small fish, center of cone vs. edge of cone ......... even the amount of seperation between the fish and what your flasher can show you (as esox-magnum pointed out) ...... these are all going to affect how they display on your flasher. You can guess, you can make generalizations, and as you get more experience you will become better at interpreting what you see ...... but the only way to know for sure is by sight, like with an underwater camera.
