Favorite lure

My favorite is the Poes Giant Jackpot, a lot of fun to work. A black bucktail with a chrome blade, and some crankbaits like a Jake that also works well trolling. Another one I use at night is the TopRaider.

Thats' what I have and use.

Good Luck,
Rob

Without a doubt you must have a black bucktail with a silver blade. I never leave the dock without one. Next would be a chartreuse bucktail, both hair and blade.

As with any type of fishing there are more lures than one can buy (that is why I am still buying lures). I feel a bucktail is the best to begin with because they are simple to use. Just cast it out and then reel it in. You can vary speeds from slow to fast. I also like it because it has one of the highest hooking percentages. It will boat fish from the beginning of the season to ice up. As for manufacturers, there are many. Some of my favorite are eagle tail, harasser, and mepps.

Hope this helps you some.

Hi

Good advise from these guys!

For me, Simple basic things work the best, day in day out.
I have over 300 different Musky lures, Hair, cranks, gliders, jerks, topwater and the like, so it would be hard for me to judge what one is best.
Some catch way more fish, other just look cool!
Each has a time and place.
And it is not only the lure color, style, shape, size, action and all that, that catches Musky or any fish really.
It is the person behind the stick controling the action of each different bait.
When to use what where, how to present it and for how long?

Never been a real big color guy, but I favor natural patterns or basic black, with a highlight here and there?
Simple is best for me, leave the pretty stuff for the weekend warriors?

Not saying I don't have fancy colors or patterns, I have some real pretty lures, but simple is what butters my bread, day in day out, from the citys to Canada.
FUN!
When I buy NEW baits I go at it three at a time.
Bright, Medium, Dull!
Something like Pearch, Shad, Sucker?
Firetiger, White, Black...
Mix up blades and hair, stlye of blade and weight.
Then think of:
Deep, shallow, topwater?
Night, day?
Clear, overcast?
HOT, cold?
Fast, slow?
Glider, jerk or crank?
Weed, rock, sand, timber...
It all is part of a puzzle that is a life long trip to figure out.
FUN!
As stated many times by the guys above or on many other boards or in books or on the tube.
Keep it simple to start, then add things as you go.
You will know when the time comes what we are saying.
Learn the body of water you fish most well, keep it simple, and have fun.
Good things will happen.
Try to learn something everytime out and you can't go wrong.
Just enjoy each time on the water.
Time on the water is the best teacher and learning to hear or see what Mother Nature is telling you is KEY to having the REALLY fantastic fun.
Try making the most out of everytime your on the water, be it for the mighty Musky or simply fishing for Sunnies.
Save up and be a doctor to pay for it all!
LOL
Now that I said ALL that, I'm going to get me a PIZZA!
Wow!
I need a Musky fix!
Keep on rock'en!

T.

There isn't much I can add to what these guys have told you. I get to see
just about every bait ever made when I fish with clients. Most never catch a fish, start with the "classic" baits
that have proven track records. After
you gain some experence, you can teach
yourself how to work the other baits. smile.gif
