Where to catch lake trout in MN??

I am planning our annual ice fishing trip, and was wondering if there is a resort in Minnesota where you can rent a sleeper house and fish for lake trout? Just looking to try something different, we have fished lake of the woods and red lake for the past 8 years or so, and would like to go after something other than walleyes just to switch it up for a year, any advice? And does anyone have any other recommendations on lakes to rent a sleeper house and catch northerns, crappies, perch, ect..?? We are willing to go basically anywhere, as long as we have a good chance at catching something!

Sleeper houses and lakers don't go hand in hand. Although it happens on occasion, lakers don't bite much during the dark hours. Renting a close by hotel room will suit you just fine and can be more comfortable, i.e. a shower and warm toilet. wink

There aren't a lot of folks who fish multi species if lakers are the prime target. The prime laker water is usually quite different than water you'd concentrate on for walleyes, pike or pan fish. I've run into guys who'll go out for lakers for a while in the morning and then leave for another area to fish other species, but they don't like to spend the entire day chasing lakers and are still in the restaraunt at the same time we are when the day is over.

There are a number of places around Ely to book a room and several on the Gunflint Trail but I wouldn't expect to spend the night on the ice unless you bring your own sleeper or go on a dog sled over nighter and camp out.
