I think Christmas cookies might be my families favorite part of the Holidays. They have been on my case for weeks. Well,I have all the shopping, decorating and wrapping done so tomorrow the cooking factory opens.

My families favorites include, chocolate covered pretzels, biscotti, pizzellas, 7 layer bars, toffee squares, corn flake holly, pecan sandies and the classic cut-out cookies(love these, just dread the work).

Always willing to try something new, each year I usually try a new one some turn into keepers, some not.

What are all your favorites? I have not picked a new one to try this year yet.

Merry Christmas!

Sounds great! Christmas cookies are a tradition on my side as well. I can remember my mother making 14 kinds one year and she usually started weeks in advance, freezing them if needed. My wife and I've narrowed it down to 5 kinds to keep it manageable - lefse, krumkake, swedish shortbread cookies, chocolate/chocolate chip peppermint cookies, and sugar cookies. We started today with the chocolate peppermint cookies. See below. I like to give an assortment of cookies along with some venison summer sausage and hot dogs to the landowners who allow me to bowhunt their properties. They typically appreciate the homemade effort.

Mrs ~t~ is in charge of all the dough related projects ever since the time I sucked a bunch of pizza dough into the motor of her mixer, and burned that sucker up. So I'm really on taste testing end of things like Christmas cookies. She makes a few batches to take to work, which is good as I can't be trusted around home made cookies anyways.

In addition to chocolate chip (or oatmeal chocolate chip) she will make some chocolate ones like the ones above, and also some very delicate lemon cookies with a coating of powdered sugar. My other favorite ones are almond cookies. Just the other day a friend dropped off 2 Kuchen, the rolled kind, one filled with nuts and the other with rasins. These are a German coffee cake kind of thing. I haven't broken into them yet.
