Rattle reel placement

What are the pros and sons of mounting rattle reels to walls versus ceiling. I've seen both used but am curious what everyone thinks.

Keep off the walls at all cost. If you are not using that particualr hole you cannot stack anything in this space. You may want to hang your coat or bibs there some day etc. Ceiling is always best in my opinion. Unless ti is a low one!

Ditto on the ceiling mount. That gets my vote.

Wall mount on a 12" 1x2 on a hinge. With 8 foot ceilings it is too hard to reel it up without standing on something, besides I have lights mounted in the ceiling above all the holes.

One advantage to having the rattle reel high (ceiling or wall) is that you don't get a ton of line peeled off during a hookset with an exited fisherperson.

I like them on the wall with hinges so they are easy to get at. I use velcro to stick them to the wallwhen not in use and they are out of your way but I usually have all my lines down.

Placement, over the center of the hole is easier from the ceiling.

My house has only 6ft 3 inch ceilings but the holes are near the walls. Clearance shouldn't be a problem most of the time. I made my own rattle reels and am working on the mount. Thanks for the words of wisdom!

Mine are 30" above the floor, but they are on a removable rod so there is barely a bump when removed from the wall. plus I can swing them away or to the side for more floor room when moving around. If you remember to give the fish some slack in the line you don't have to worry about peeling line off the rattle reel.
