What Not to do when Ice Fishing Please share

If your heater/cooker starts to flare and or sound funny and won't shot off when you close the propane valve because the valve is frozen, DON'T attempt to unscrew the 1-lb propane bottle from it while you are still sitting in the portable. You will be engulfed in a fire ball. Luckily, I only lost some of my eye brows and hair on my hands/wrists. Good thing my wife was smart enough to get out of the porty and had the door open so I just threw the whole thing out on the ice.

Also, don't leave you pole and bait sitting in a little wire rod holder on the ice by the hole, as your loading the truck at the end of the day. I walked into the porty just as the rod and rod holder were going down the hole. Must have been a nice fish!

Both of these happened the same day. Stopped on the way home and bought a new heater, rod and pole holder.

Don't balance a spreader pole on the seat next to a hole, and then bump it down the hole, especially on the maiden voyage of your beautiful new Quickflip III.

Don't be surprised when all of the windows on your QF3 crack as you pack it up on a ridiculously cold and windy night.

Don't forget to open the bail of your beautiful new Tica reel before stepping out of the QF3 to check a flag, especially when the pike are active.

Don't forget to mark your entry point onto the lake on your GPS, particularly when heavy snow and gale-force winds are likely to set in that evening.

Don't ruin good planning by buying a spare thermocouple for your heater, but not tossing it in with your gear.

Lastly, don't forget to throw the toolbox into the truck before leaving home, you never know when you might need to be wrenching on augers, trucks, shelters, etc. out on the ice!
