Hunting Ridges and Bottoms of Woods

Recommended Posts

I got permission to hunt a 100 acre piece of all woods with ravines going every which way and steep saddles.

Is it worth it to hunt the tops of these on the field edges or go to the dried up creek bottoms and wait for them to funnel through at dark or in the morning.

Never hunted this before so any insight would help!

One day of scouting will tell you more than any amount of internet prognosticating could ever tell you. That doesn't mean don't hunt, but rather use your first hunt to "scout". I'd set up on edges of potential food sources, or high points/observation stands, where you can determine areas that allow you to "hunt your way in" to the high traffic or high probability "kill zones". The worst thing you can do is to unknowingly bust into the middle of the primary bedding/sanctuary areas and push the deer out.
