5 days? Isn't that being too optimistic?

5 days is a little optimistic. If the forcast does what it says and things go perfect, late Suday a guy might be able to find some ice on small ponds around 3-4 inches. The key is seeing night temps around 10-12*F. The forecast isn't bad, and I would guess that next weekend we should be on the ice for sure on the ponds around here.

I think your going to have a lot of little bugs crawling around before you get to use that amount any time soon! whistle

The bait isn't just for me. My brother, cousin, and a couple friends will use it also. You'd be suprised how long the bait will last in the basement fridge. I usually order last week of nov. and it will stay good until about the end of feb.

Seen the temps are going to be a high in the 30's come Thursday. So I put in an order for ice fishing bait from vados. Ordered a 1,000 mixed colored spikes and 250 wax worms. Now I just need the ice to be fishable in about 5 days. wink

do tehy run out that fast? or just better in bulk I am guessing? as getting ready to fisha little more each year. how do you guys keep your waxes and spikes through the winter especially buying so many.

The bait shop that I stop at most frequently does not sell maggots. For me it is just a new bait to try. There are directions in the package for keeping a bunch of different baits fresh. For maggots you keep them in the fridge in sawdust. I'm sure they will last for quite a while. Waxies can just be kept in the basement in sawdust. You want them cool, but not cold like the maggots.

Keep your fridge at about 33-34 degrees. That will keep the maggots fresh for a long time. I have a college dorm mini fridge that can be dialed right in. Plus the beer is always the perfect temp as well. grin Also, if you get them in bulk, keep them in the original packages and take what you will need for each trip. This will also lenghen their life. Now you got me thinking that i need to order some.
