More shivers then fish

Recommended Posts

I made it out in the boat this last weekend in central Minnesota.

I shivered more then I caught fish, however.

I yo-yo'd a few Crappies off the bottom in 25-30 feet of water with tear-drops on the brims of the holes of the winter haunts, and also made contact with some Crappies in 3-7 feet of water as well with feather jigs tipped with minnows.

Nothing too spectacular though, with myself having a total of 10 Crappies caught, and none over the 10 inch mark.

With this weeks warmer weather though, some good action should be seen in the farther areas up in Minnesota.

Bring on the warmth... For good!

I've been out the last two days and found varying results, but basically the fish are starting to set up pre-spawn down here. With the water temps pretty much at 55-56 degrees, a touch warmer down deep, all we need is some stable weather and it sounds as though this week will feed us what we need. Now if we could re-direct the wind to do a big cicle in Iowa and stay out of our arena for about a month..... The fish we took today were alll males in the 10 1/2 to 12 inch range and came from about 10 feet of water at four feet. Chartreuse plastics under a float. I took the most fish today using a black/chartreuse Culprit Paddletail. 1/32 ounce head. They finally acted as though they were going to begin the hard- hitting they do during pre-spawn. Absolutely no hesitation whatever on the hit today and any up-ward hits showed equal vigor.

hey ! hey ! we don't need any more of the blasted wind either!!!! send it some where else !!! our best bite here on a little lake has been a small plastic ( tube, twister tail, paddle tail; char.has been doing well) on a 1/32 head with out a float. the fish are suspending and vary from 4 - 7 ft down. we just cast the rig out, and very slowly reel it back in. many of the hits are very light. once in a while you will see a twitch in the line, but mostly they just grab the bait and swim towards you with it.just a little difference in line tension is usually all that you get for a hit. the numbers are great, but the size is small due to fishing pressure.( there are guys bragging that they have taken thousands of fish from the lake) . so most are on the small side.( wish they would put a limit on them!) hey tom !! do you ever get tired of trying to tell people that they can't exspect to catch many or any fish when using 10# line, steel leaders,1/4 oz. jigs under a bobber that is an 1" in dia. ??? mercy!!

Hey Del...I gave up on that line of thinking a long time ago. Yesterday the fish were down about 8 feet over 19 feet of water, with some deep wood. Hit like mad using the small float and the Culprit Paddletails. And agreeing with you, the chartreuse is hot right now. Now here's a good one for you, last night we had some weather move thru the area with , evidently, some lightning and thunder. I went to the same place again this morning and could only find the fish at....18 feet! Small head, paddie and line straight down. Caught fish like crazy, just deeper than heck. The lightning must have put them down. Did this until about nine or so, then the wind came up.
