Electronic calls for coyotes?

Recommended Posts

I saw a tv show the other day where the guy was using an electronic call that just kept calling and calling. Do you guys use electronic calls or just call with your mouth calls? I see coyotes all the time deer hunting and I was thinking I should actually hunt them especially now that its early and maybe they are a bit dumber. Are the electronic calls legal in MN?

Thanks

Electronic calls are legal in Minnesota for the taking of fur bearing animals. I think it was changed back in 2007.

Whether to use the call continuously really depends on what your hunting and what you like.

Sometimes for fox and coyote I'll let it play but ramp the volume up and down so I can barely hear it when it's on low volume. It really depends on what works for you and you'll develop your own style after a while.

Good luck.

Running one continuously is a great way to educate any dog in the area really quick. We use our foxpro similar to mouth calling, as mentioned above. Play a sequence, die down to silent, then pause for 2-20 minutes depending on terrain, weather, day/night, etc. An e-caller is not a magic crutch that will make em come running. It still takes learning how/when to run the caller and when to sit back and wait.
