The Rodgers/Favre debate continues

Did you even bother to read?

He was both, a QB was going at #1, Rodgers and Smith were the #1 and #2 QB on every draft board. Nolan the coach of the team that had the #1 pick decided not to go with Rodgers because he thought they couldn't get along.

Yeah, I read it. I don't get into all the draft stuff and don't give much of a carp about it, which probably explains why I didn't pick up on the nuances. Thanks for the explanation.

It's all good, it was actually the biggest story line of the whole NFL draft that year, anyone that pays attention should remember how it went down.

Anyone remember when the Packers were thinking about trading Rodgers to the Oaklane Raiders for Randy Moss? Favre was probably making the push for that trade lol.

CJH- Nice try,

Not a try, reality. Not all mock's had him 1 or 2 or even top 5. You also shouldn't ever take those as gospel, its common knowledge that most of the info floating around at draft time is false, which most mocks are based on. Even the Mock's routinely move players all over the place to continue to garner interest. You can believe what you want.

There were plenty of teams in the top 24 that needed a QB - the most important position in modern football. Not going to argue with what you you think you know, but it was a colossal mistake for several teams to pass on him, inluding Gruden, Nick Saban (dolphins) and several others. And yes, they needed a QB.

It was a combination of luck for him to still be there, and TT's guts to take him when Favre was still around, knowing it would go over very poorly with Favre and the public.

Not going to argue, just going to sit back and enjoy watching him play. He's a stud, and barring injury, should be for quite a while.

Here let me help you, right from Rodgers Bio. Pretty much backs up everything I said and equals a big FAIL for you.

Rodgers was expected to be selected early in the 2005 NFL Draft as he had posted impressive numbers as a junior with Cal, throwing for 2,320 yards with a 67.5 completion rating. He had tied an NCAA record when he completed 23 consecutive passes against the eventual national champions, USC. He threw for 24 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions in his last college season, impressing many NFL scouts. Rodgers' slip to the 24th choice by the Green Bay Packers became one of the biggest stories of the draft, though he was still the second quarterback selected. The San Francisco 49ers, who held the first overall pick, were not interested in Rodgers as then-49ers head coach Mike Nolan, a strong personality, did not believe that Rodgers' attitude could co-exist with him. The 49ers would select quarterback Alex Smith.[27] In addition to the fact that many teams drafting between second and 23rd positions had positional needs more pressing than quarterback, Rodgers' moderate height (6'2") may have contributed to his precipitous slide. Rodgers is one of six quarterbacks coached by Jeff Tedford to be drafted in the first round, joining Akili Smith, Trent Dilfer, Joey Harrington, and Kyle Boller.
