Grousing for a Cure...

Recommended Posts

As many of you know, October is/was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The last day in October rolled around, and I hadn't chipped anything toward the cause.

Well, Tim and I had Halloween Day off, and we decided that we would try to get in a nice afternoon hunt. I had a box of Federal Top Shot pink hulls, and we decided to turn the hunt into a search for grouse, and a cure...

We ended up working the Bemidji area, hitting several proven trails in our short 3-hour window. We moved 7 birds and killed 3 nice ruffed grouse. The numbers weren't huge, but they were special, as money was donated for every bird encountered, and extra for birds killed.

Check out Federal's special pink hulls and do your part to help with breast cancer awareness and research!

That's a great pic Matt. Great Cause too.

I've been really getting into the birds lately, seems like I can be walking anywhere throughout the Chippawa National east of Bemidji and am finding birds in all sorts of cover. Where we deer hunt, we all would have had several opportunities to shoot grouse. I finally gave up on deer and decided to pick up the shotgun last sunday. Kicked up 7, shot 4 in only 1 1/2 hrs. That same spot a few weeks back, we walked the same area and shot 4 and a woodcock in a short walk. If a guy gets off the beaten path, there's definately grouse to be had.

Here's a pic from last Sunday's hunt, with the 4 fans from the previous hunt.
