Montana Moss Agate

I find a lot of these Montana moss agates in the Minnesota River Valley. I always thought it was amber until I got educated at the Moose Lake show. True amber is petrified sap but these sure look like amber to me.

Nice stash! I found my first one the other day. The one you tumbled is very pretty. I love the fern-like inclusions. Its pretty awesome what the glaciers brought our way!

I'll occasionally find what I thought were called black montana moss agates. What I look for in IDing those is those black snowflake like flecks in the stone. I also recently found out there is a honey agate that I have been mistaking as amber so check that out too.

Is this a Montana agate or a Honey Agate? Seems a bit different than a lake superior

I pulled one of those out of the Root River a couple openers ago...

Doesn't amber have a hardness of around 2.5 and agate 7.5? You can polish it with your hand, no tumbler needed. Just toothpaste.

I like your agate though.
